The Ultimaker 2 Extended 3D printer of the department

Ultimaker 2 Extended is a FDM (fused deposition modeling) 3D printer of the department located in the computer room.

Security and rules of use

  • Do NOT touch the nozzle or printing bed suface during heating and 3D printing
  • Do not load incompatible materials
  • Do not put your fingers on the bed (finger grease reduces adhesion of the thread)
  • Remember to remove prints
  • Keep the interior clean from dust and thread deposite

Preparing the 3D model

  • Prepare a 3D model with an adapted software (Blender, Rinoceros...)
  • Verify that the model have no hole or unattached free vertices
  • export your model and import it in a slicer (Cura for example)
  • Verify that the object is stuck to the base, add supports to angles greater than 90°, adjust the infill and support options

Starting the printing

  • Export as Gcode on the SD card, if everything is okay the file will appear on the selection list
  • Go to "print" and select the file
  • Watch at launch that the thread go out and stick to the bed
  • Adjust the temperature if needed

Changing the thread

Only use PLA/ABS from 2.85 to 0.4mm

  • Go to "change material"
  • Eject the current thread
  • Change the roller at the back of the machine
  • Load the thread in the machine and wait for it to go out of the nozzle
