Consider also broadening you search to other articles that might include your subject as a section. *Do not load incompatible materials
*Do not put your fingers on the bed (finger grease reduces adhesion of the thread)
*Remember to remove prints
*Keep the interior clean from dust and thread deposite

*Prepare a 3D model with an adapted software (Blender, Rinoceros...)
*Verify that the model have no hole or unattached free vertices
*export your model and import it in a slicer ([[Cura]] for example)
*Verify that the object is stuck to the base, add supports to angles greater than 90°, adjust the infill and support options

*Export as Gcode on the SD card, if everything is okay the file will appear on the selection list
*Go to "print" and select the file
*Watch at launch that the thread go out and stick to the bed
*Adjust the temperature if needed

Only use PLA/ABS from 2.85 to 0.4mm
*Go to "change material"
*Eject the current thread
*Change the roller at the back of the machine
*Load the thread in the machine and wait for it to go out of the nozzle

I previously made a DNMADE in digital design at ENSAAMA and my M2 research project is on open design, more precisely on accessibility of open design projects to non-specialists.

Formlab Form 3+ is a 3D printer in the department that uses SLA (StereoLithography Apparatus) technology. This resin printer can produce objects with specific properties like heat resistance or flexibility.

== Choosing SLA vs FDM ==
SLA is a process of polymerization (solidification) of liquid resin, thanks to a UV laser. It differs from FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling = printer with a filament) so read carefully this documentation. With SLA, the resin is irreversibily hardened in a type of material called ''thermosetting polymer''. Since it resists heat, the obtained pieces can't be recycled properly. It also generate more trash with the replacement of tanks and cans. On top of that SLA production costs are higher than our other FDM machines. With that in mind, consider opting for SLA instead of FDM if :
* Result needs to be more precise than what other printers can do
* Result needs to resist to heat or certain mechanical forces
* Result needs to have properties specific to certain resins: flexibility, transparency...

== Security and rules of use ==
* '''Handle with gloves and glasses when working with resin or alcohol. In case of contact with the body, wash exposed parts with soap and water.'''
* Do not touch the transparent film under and in the tanks (things containing the poured resin). Also, do not put the tank outside of its receptacle or the printer. This would cause damage to the film, disturbing the action of the laser and requiring the replacement of the tank (135€). The tank is therefore handled by holding the handles on the sides.
* A tank is only used for ONE type of resin. A label (which must be stuck on the tank and its receptacle) allows to know the type of resin used. If none of the tanks currently in use has the resin you want, you use a new tank.
* The orange color of some transparent elements allows to protect the resin from UV of the natural light. We therefore think to close the lid of the tanks or the machine containing the tank with resin.
* Handle tanks containing resin with care to avoid spilling it.
* Resin is a liquid chemical and should not be disposed of in a normal garbage can. This also applies to the paper towel used to wipe up the resin residue. Everything should be disposed of in the specially labelled chemical waste garbage can. <= This is theory, because for now no such garbage can exist yet.

== Printing process ==

To make a print it is necessary to go through different steps:
* preparation of the 3D model with [https://formlabs.com/fr/software/#preform Preform software]
* printing with Form 3+ not 3B or 3A
* automatic cleaning with Formwash
* manual cleaning
* UV polymerization with Formcure
* cutting of the object's supports

It is not necessary to take care of the object directly after a step in a machine, however it is good to take advantage of the fact that the object is full of alcohol after the Formwash to continue with the manual cleaning.

You can link your laptop to the machine using the USB cable. Follow instructions on the Form3+.

To retrieve the part, lift the small latch on top of the platform and grasp the black handle on top of the platform. Pull the handle towards you, and with a rotation of the wrist at the same time, put the platform face up. Prepare a protection on the work surface (cutting board) and provide paper towels. Close the cap of the resin cartridge at the back of the Form3+. Clean the holder with paper towel and alcohol.

To remove the piece, twist the metal plate by taking a metal handle in each hand, thumbs on the black handle. If this step was not sufficient, use the squeegee in the back compartment of the Formwash and give small strokes in different directions at the base of the piece.

It becomes necessary to change the alcohol in the Formcure when the parts are badly cleaned and have more and more deposit.

Every student can edit or create content on the wiki. As you may have recognize, we use [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Contents Mediakiwi] software to run it. This guide will present you the two methods for modifying pages : the simpler VisualEditor and classic editing through source mode.

==Opening the editor==
When reading a page, click the ''Edit'' or, in french, ''Modifier'' button on the right. By doing so you open the VisualEditor, a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor. It works like Word, Gdocs or LibreOffice so you should be pretty familiar with this editing method. This other method is the [[Help:Editing/Source mode | source mode]].

==Saving the edit==
When done with editing, you will find several buttons at the bottom of the page.
===Show changes===
''Sow changes'' will display the current article vs the new article with your edits. You will see what text is being removed or added and you can check that there is no unwanted changes.

==Server side modifications==
Some modifications require access to the Virtual Machine (VM) on which the wiki is installed and running. The student association [https://rezel.net/ Rezel] is in charge of the maintenance and they set up the wiki. To access the VM you will need to connect to it via SSH. With this technique you have access to the files on the server and can work on it in an Integrated development environment like VS Code. A key is generated on your machine and your public key <code>yourkey.pub</code> content needs to be added on the server by someone from Rezel (maybe and admin with server access too?).

===Generate a SSH key===
Follow [https://assistance.groupemagiconline.com/knowledge-base/generer-une-cle-ssh/ these instructions]. Setting up a passphrase is not necessary and caused some problem with VS Code. Just hit enter to avoid that step. If you want to remove the passphrase without having to recreate a new key, type <code>ssh-keygen -p</code> in your Command-line interface. This will prompt you to enter the keyfile location (C:\Users\Your-user-name\.ssh on Windows) and set a new password.

===Connect to the server===
Once your public key has been setup by someone with server access, you can connect to the server. You can do it via your Command-line interface if you know how to navigate within folders with a text based interface. Type <code>ssh root@wikimdr-lxc.rezel.net -i .ssh/id_rsa</code>, adjust depending on your key location and name.

Otherwise you can do it in [https://code.visualstudio.com/ VS Code] with the [https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=ms-vscode-remote.remote-ssh remote SSH extension]. In VS Code click <tt> View > Command palette...</tt> or <kbd>Crtl</kbd> + <kbd>Shift</kbd> + <kbd>P</kbd>, then type and choose <tt>Remote-SSH: Connect to host</tt>. You will need to configure a new SSH host. The operating system is <tt>Linux</tt> and host adress is <tt>root@wikimdr-lxc.rezel.net</tt>. This will probably create a config file in your .ssh folder. Access it with <tt>Remote-SSH: Open SSH Configuration File</tt> and configure it that way:

Once you started the connection, find the Remote Explorer tab on the left. You'll see that you are connected to the VM (an icon is green and it is written <tt>connected</tt>. Now when doing <tt>File > Open folder</tt> you can choose which folder you want to access.

LocalSettings.php is located in <tt>/var/lib/mediawiki/</tt>

Source mode is one of the two editing methods with the [[Help:Editing/Visual editor | Visual Editor]]. It allows for text-based page editing using a light markup language called wikitext. The Visual Editor might introduce small errors on your edit, so you can switch to source mode to verify changes. It is also used for more complex editing.

== Switch to source mode ==
When viewing a page you can click the [[]] icon next to the pen icon to directly enter source mode editing. If you are already in the Visual Editor, click the pen icon dropdown menu on the top right and you'll be able to choose the source mode [[]].

Every student can edit or create content on the wiki. As you may have recognize, we use [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Contents Mediakiwi] software to run it. This guide will present you the two methods for modifying pages : the simpler VisualEditor and classic editing through source mode.

==Opening the editor==
When reading a page, click the ''Edit'' or, in french, ''Modifier'' button on the right. By doing so you open the VisualEditor, a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor. It works like Word, Gdocs or LibreOffice so you should be pretty familiar with this editing method.

==Saving the edit==
When done with editing, you will find several buttons at the bottom of the page.
===Show changes===
''Sow changes'' will display the current article vs the new article with your edits. You will see what text is being removed or added and you can check that there is no unwanted changes.
===Save page===
Just before saving the page, you can add a summary to your changes. Every change is logged and publicly visible in the page history. Leave here a brief description of what you made so other editors can see your contribution. Now click ''Save page'' to publish your edit.

Antonin Mongin presented his work as part of the [[Domestication of technology]] talk series on 10 mai 2023 at ENS. His presentation was entilted '''"L’artisanat d’art du cheveu coupé: Le cheveux comme matière à création d'une recherche par la pratique du design textile"''' like his thesis. After a short oral presentation he invited students to examine and touch some of it's creations and answered questions.

==Biography==
Antonin Mongin holds a doctorate in design and describe himself as a textile researcher-designer-craftsman. He completed a SACRE thesis at ENSADLab in 2022.

==Introduction to the art of working with hair==
Antonin Mongin introduced his presentation with a historical perspective on the craft of cut hair art. This ancient romantic practice of creating sentimental objects flourished in the 19th century before disappearing. Its decline is thought to be due to the arrival of photography as a new memory practice, but also to the loss of made-to-measure work with the arrival of catalogs of hair objects. Two techniques stand out in cut-hair craftsmanship: braiding and collage (on glass, paper or wood) of powdered hair. The objects created are used to commemorate memories such as funeral scenes or scenes from life (fishing, weddings, communions...).

==Research==
===State of the art===
At the beginning of his research Antonin Mongin began to aggregate definitions of crafts and to draw up a state of the art. For him, there's a loss of value associated with cut hair, and most designers regard it as just another anonymous material. He cite ''The Color of Hair'' by Fabio Hendry and Martijn Rigters as an example of this practice and oposed it to ''Tangible Truth'' by Sybille Paulsen, which puts people at the heart of the creative process.

===Problematic===
How to revive and reinvent the art of working with hair? His hypothesis is to mark the stages of life, which means not releasing periodic collections. He's looking for an exchange with the person, a made-to-order service.

===Design process===
This transition took him from textile design expert to hairworking novice. Antonin Mongin worked on a multi-scale textilization of the hair, since different hair lengths imply a different way of working with it. In an inclusive approach, he wanted to be able to find a process for all hair types and lengths. Here are the techniques used :
* '''Silkscreen:''' printing: for leather or silk-like effects.
* '''Felting:''' by co-creating patterns with the client.
* '''Weaving:''' in a nylon warp, for example. You can also weave two types of hair from two friends...
* '''Hair knitting:''' (>40cm) within a nylon jersey structure.
He asked people at school and close friends and family to donate hair for science. As a result, he receives more and more hair donations. At home, everything is organized by hair type, cut date, length... Fashions, like tye and die, are reflected in the creations. It's a way of remembering a particular moment in your life.

Each project has a research question. The research is multi-disciplinary, so he calls on various experts from partner or friendly establishments. For example, he used a planetary ball mill to create a powder finer than tint base. Then he integrated it into a wire of another material.
